Bachelor of Science — Organizational & Community Leadership

Interdisciplinary Preparation for the Leaders of Tomorrow
Organizational leadership students work on an innovative educational display at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Leadership majors work on an innovative, educational exhibit at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Are you the type of person who questions “what is” and want to become the type of person who can inspire and motivate others to achieve “what could and should be?” If you are, then the Organizational and Community Leadership major is right for you.

Organizational and Community Leadership majors accept the challenge of leadership in an increasingly complex, global, and fast-paced world. With strong backgrounds in communication, business, creativity, policy, decision-making, innovation, strategic planning, and project management, our graduates are prepared to lead change that improves the lives of individuals, and provides vision for the future growth and well-being of public, private, government and community organizations.

Hands-On Experience: Learn by Doing
Leadership students at UD organize hands-on projects with community groups.

Students in the program work with various community groups - pictured is a project where SPPA students worked with local school children.

The Organizational & Community Leadership major is interactive. Enhance your academic experience with discovery learning opportunities such as independent research, service learning activities, study abroad programs, and internships. As part of your regular coursework, you will work with outside agencies and organizations to meet leadership challenges.

You will have special opportunities to participate, along with faculty and graduate students, in the School of Public Policy & Administration’s research and public service programs, such as Summer Fellowships as a Public Policy Scholar and Legislative Fellowships that offer credit for working with elected government officials. Consider study abroad programs  to enhance your global perspectives on leadership. An Honors Degree is offered.

"This major did not just teach me how to be a leader, it taught me how to be successful and it taught me so much about myself. Before this major I was lost. I had no idea what I wanted to do in life, no real passion for anything and could barely make it through my classes. Now I am accepting my first job offer, am passionate about everything and am so excited for what the future holds. I feel confident that the tools and strategies I have learned in this major will guide me to this success. I am very lucky to be where I am, and I have the LEADERSHIP major to thank!!!!" - Mike Lyon, OCL major"This major has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone tremendously and accept that change is good, and change is necessary. Being a Leadership major means learning outside of the text book but rather doing and putting things to practice. These past four years have taught me how to interconnect and innovate with anything that comes my way, two aspects that are both important for counseling and consulting.  Being an OCL major has given me confidence" - Natalie Pratta, OCL major
