    • Innovative ways for local governments to experiment with community design
    • The Ramble plan for waterfront redevelopment in Laurel and a new coastal resiliency project
    • “Pop-Up” projects throughout the state
    • Interactive community engagement
    • How communities can use open data to enable more efficient and effective government
    • The City of Lewes’s work with FirstMap, and how others can do the same
    • The City of Wilmington’s nationally recognized work with Open Data Delaware

    This new IPA training course will focus on a variety of issues related to human resource management for local governments in Delaware. Course topics will include:

    • Documenting HR issues and employment records
    • Disciplining employees
    • Understanding manager-council relations relating to HR issues
    • Utilizing collective bargaining
    • Developing and using municipal HR handbooks

    Proper management techniques can help prevent problems and conflicts. With 12 years of experience helping local governments navigate HR issues, Aaron Shapiro, Esq. will lead workshop participants through the ins and outs of these tricky topics. This session qualifies for certificate credit in the Academy for Excellence in Local Government Leadership.
